Attorney Christopher Stidham of Portage, IN; convicted felon

The state of Indiana presented Christopher Dewayne Stidham with a law license in 2016 after he graduated from Valparaiso University School of Law.

The Indiana Disciplinary Commission found Chris guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • In his capacity as the elected Clerk-Treasurer for the City of Portage, Chris was engaged in an illegal scheme involving payments to three companies controlled by his then girlfriend.
  • Chris was criminally charged with official misconduct
  • Chris subsequently pled guilty to an amended charge of conflict of interest, a felony
  • Failed to disclose on his bar application his payments as Clerk-Treasurer to the entities controlled by his then-girlfriend

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Indiana Supreme Court punished Chris by gifting him with a complimentary 180-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. June 2022), Chris practices his so-called brand of law with Rhame & Elwood at 3200 Willowcreek Road in Portage, Indiana.
