Attorney Melissa Freeman of King George, VA; cheating slacker

The state of Virginia presented Melissa Lynch Freeman with a law license in 1999 after she graduated the University of Baltimore School of Law.

The Virginia State Bar found Jody guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

• Ordered to pay restitution of $2,500 to former client [victim]
• Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty, or misrepresentation
• Knowingly made a false statement of material fact
• Failed to fully cooperate with ethics investigators (Up yours, said Melissa!)
• Upon being terminated failed to take reasonable steps to protect client interests
• Failed to refund unearned fee (cheater)
• Failed to decline/terminate representation when required to so act
• Failed to safeguard client funds
• Failed to keep client informed of status of matter
• Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board punished Jody by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand.
