Attorney John Cooper of Ogden, UT; ethical troll

The State of Utah presented John C. Cooper with a law license in 2011 after he graduated from Texas Tech University School of Law.

The Ethics and Discipline Committee of the Utah Supreme found Johnny guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

• Failed to communicate with his client
• Failed to safeguard client funds
• Failed to place advance client fee into a client trust account
• Commingled client funds with personal funds
• Failed to draft a summons and complaint regarding client’s divorce matter on the husband
• Billed client at Johnny’s hourly rates for time spent by his paralegal on client matter
• Failed to fully cooperate with ethics investigators (Up yours, said Johnny!)
• Failed to keep client informed of status of matter
• Failed to provide client with any copies regarding her case
• Failed to advise client of scheduled hearing dates in her case
• Failed to appear at court-scheduled status conference on client’s behalf
• Misconduct involved dishonest motive
• Misconduct involved multiple offenses
• Refused to acknowledge wrong nature of his misconduct
• Lacked good faith effort to make restitution or to rectify the consequences of the misconduct involved including no refund of any unearned fees and costs incurred by his client

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Utah Supreme Court punished Johnny by gifting him with a complimentary 3-year suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. May 2022), Johnny practices his so-called brand of law with the Cooper Law Office at 1325 Lincoln Avenue in Ogden, Utah.
