Judge Joseph Isabella of Trenton, NJ; ethical leprechaun

The New Jersey Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct filed the following misconduct charges against Judge Isabella.
  1. Failed to observe the high standards of conduct of his judicial office
  2. Created the appearance of impropriety
  3. Used his judicial office to advance the private interests of others
The Committee charged that Joseph used his judicial office to obtain financial assistance to pay for summer camp for the son of his girlfriend and helped her in preparing legal papers against the father of her children.

Isabella called Frank Pomaco, the attorney for the board of education to discuss the fees for summer camp and followed up the conversation with a fax on judicial (taxpayer paid for) stationary. Pomaco is a former law partner of Judge Isabella and a close friend.

On the advice from Pomaco, Judge Isabella called Nutley School Superintendent Joseph Zarra. Zarra attended Isabella’s swearing-in ceremony and is the principal at the high school Isabella’s children attended. Zarra he interacted with Isabella on numerous occasions in community activities. As a result of Isabella’s arm-twisting, the school district agreed to pay a portion of the thousands of dollars for the summer camp on behalf of his girlfriend’s son.

Judge Isabella was also charged with helping his wife prepare interrogatories and financial information in a lawsuit against the father of her children. A full-time judge is prohibited from practicing law, a fact well known to Isabella.

All that’s left now is to see what punishment if any that Isabella receives from the apologists for Judicial Misfits sitting on the New Jersey Supreme Court. In truth, Isabella should be removed from the bench and ordered to repay the Board of Education for the summer camp fees they paid on behalf of his girlfriend’s son.

As we speak (ca. June 2012) Judge Isabella remains sitting on the bench as a Hudson County Superior Court Judge Trenton.
