Attorney Susan Von Achten of Toronto, CAN; ethical troll

The Law Society of Upper Canada presentedSusan Jane Von Achten with a law license in 1995 after she graduated from the University of Ottawa School of Law.

The Hearing Committee for the Law Society of Ontario found Suzie guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

• Dealt improperly with funds received into trust from her client, C1
• Failed to deposit client funds into her trust account and instead dealt with them out of her general account
• Failed to deliver her client, C1, statements of account for fees and disbursements charged
• Appropriated funds advanced by her client, C1, in trust and for the purpose of paying an expert by applying them to disbursements that had not been authorized by C1 or disclosed to C1
• Failed to be honest and candid and act with integrity
• Requested that her client, C1, forward $3,500 for the purpose of paying an advance on an expert’s fee when in fact the expert had requested no advance
• Requested that her client, C1, pay an additional $1,400 towards an expert’s account, and refused to refund $2,100 in unused expert fees, when in fact the expert’s account totaled only $4,900 and the client had paid a total of $7,000 towards that account

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Hearing Committee punished Suzie by gifting her with a complimentary 1-month suspension of her law license.

As we speak (ca. April 2022), Suzie practices her so-called brand of law at 170 Brockport Drive in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
