Solicitor Hin Yip Wai of Hong Kong; ethical misfit

The Law Society of Hong Kong presented Hin Yip Wai with a law license in 1988 after he graduated from the University of Hong Kong School of Law.

The Law Society Disciplinary Counsel found Hin guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Improperly and repeatedly shared profits with numerous trainee solicitors
  • Improperly and repeatedly shared profit costs on a regular basis with a paralegal for work handled by the paralegal whilst under the employment of Wai’s firm
  • Improperly and repeatedly shared profits with several paralegals
  • Improperly and repeatedly shared profits with legal assistants
  • Improperly and repeatedly shared profits and costs with a legal executive

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal punished Ho by gifting him with a complimentary censure, and fined HK$20,000.00 ($2,564.00 US).

As we speak (ca. February 2022), Hin practices his so-called brand of law with Wai & Co. Solicitors LLP at 89 Queensway, Admiralty, Hong Kong.
