Solicitor Neil Barnes of Scotland; ethical troll

The Law Society presented Neil Brennan Barnes with a law license in 2000 after he graduated from the University of Glasgow School of Law.

The Scottish Solicitors’ Discipline Tribunal found Neil guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in professional misconduct
  • Failed to settle client’s fee notes
  • Acted in contravention of his statutory obligation to make payment, that contravention continuing for such a period of time that Neil’s continued failure brought the profession into disrepute
  • Failed to effectively communicate with client in providing a clear and comprehensive explanation as to the present position of the status of the two clients’ legal aid accounts
  • Failed to offer clear, regular and accurate explanations as to the status of the two clients’ legal aid accounts

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Solicitor Misfits sitting on the Discipline Tribunal punished Neil by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

As we speak (ca. August 2021), Neil practices his so-called brand of law at Foinavon Gardens, Thornliebank in Glasgow, Scotland.
