Attorney Thomas Burke of Parker, CO; ethical troll

The state of Colorado provided Thomas Joseph Burke with a law license in 2001 after he graduated from Duke University School of Law.

The Colorado State Bar found Tommy guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation
  • Failed to keep a client reasonably informed about the status of the matter
  • Failed to comply with client information requests
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Tommy’s inaction on the case injured his client, whose federal and state tax liability increased substantially during the course of the representation
  • On Tommy’s advice, his client ignored notices from IRS regarding tax lien

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Colorado Supreme punished Tommy by gifting him with a complimentary 1-year suspension of his law license effective December 28,2020.

As we speak (ca. May 2021), Tommy will resume his so-called practice of law in Parker, Colorado in early December 2021.
