Attorney Patrick Sutton of Minneapolis, MN; ethical gnome

The state of Minnesota presented Patrick Michael Sutton with a law license in 2009 after he graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Law.

The Office of Lawyer Regulation found Patty guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Entered into improper limited-scope agreements without obtaining informed client consent
  • Entered into improper fee agreements that contained impermissible terms that circumvented Patty’s obligations under the applicable rules of professional conduct
  • Failed to fully communicate with his clients
  • Engaged in the illegal practice of law in California
  • Threatened to withdraw from representation even though the withdrawal would violate the rules of professional conduct

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Minnesota Supreme Court punished Patty by gifting him with a complimentary 60-day suspension of his law license.

As one would suspect, Patty fails to mention the above misconduct on his self-serving website at www.patrickmsutton.com.   Apparently, he chose to conceal this relevant information from prospective clients for the purpose of not limiting his future victim pool.

As we speak (ca. July 2021), Patty practices his brand of law with the Sutton Law Firm at 20 Second Street NE in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
