Former Judge Charles Delehey of Mount Holly, NJ; ethical gnome

The state of New Jersey provided Charles A. Delehey with a law license in 1966 after he graduated from Seton Hall University School of Law. 79 years old

The Supreme Court of New Jersey Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct found Judge Delehey guilty of the following misconduct, all of which took place while he was employed as a Burlington County, Mercer Vicinage, Superior Court Judge.

  • Engaged in an illegal ex parte (one-sided) communication in a criminal matter
  • Improperly initiated and participated in plea negotiations in a criminal case over which he was presiding
  • Failed to act in an impartial manner
  • Failed to act at all times in a manner that promotes public confidence in the integrity and
  • impartiality of the judiciary
  • Failed to avoid impropriety and the appearance of impropriety
  • Failed to perform judicial duties impartially
  • Failed to appreciate that he engaged in any misconduct
  • Failed to recuse himself when recusal was mandatory

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the New Jersey Supreme Court punished Charlie by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. April 2021), Charlie practices his brand of law in the Mount Holly, New Jersey area.
