Judge Michelle Baker of Titusville, FL; ethical goblin

The State of Florida provided Michelle Vitt Baker with a law license in 1988 after she graduated from Stetson University School of Law.

The Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission found Michelle guilty of engaging in the following misconduct, all of which took place while she was campaigning for the County judgeship she now holds.

  • Stated in her mailers that her opponent lacked diversity among her supporters
  • Stated in mailer her opponents were criminal defense attorneys and stated, “What are they trying to buy?”
  • Michelle’s campaign finance reports do reflect greater diversity among her contributors relating to their occupational characteristics than is reflected in her opponent's campaign finance reports
  • Involved in poor judgment in allowing mailer attacking diversity of opponent asserting that her opponent could be bought

As a direct consequence of this misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Florida Supreme Court punished Michelle by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand and a fine of $25,000.00.

As we speak (ca. October 2020), Michelle continues to sit as a Circuit Court judge in Titusville, Florida.
