Attorney Renay M. Fariss of Chesterfield, VA; vindictive loser

The state of Virginia provided Renay Melitta Fariss with a law license in 1989 after she graduated from the University of Richmond Law School.

In the recent past, the Virginia Bar filed misconduct charges against Ms. Fariss for the manner in which she dealt with a legal assistant, Laura Walsh, which is set forth below.

During a confidential meeting, Ms. Fariss sought Renay’s legal advice. Ms. Walsh advised Renay that she had not been legally divorced from her former husband prior to marrying Mr. Walsh even though they’d been married and/or living together for nearly 27 years. Ms. Walsh expected the information to remain confidential as it was embarrassing and could potentially detrimental to her claim for VA benefits for which she applied after Mr. Walsh’s death.

When Ms. Walsh left her job with Renay she was owed at least two months in back pay. Ms. Walsh subsequently applied for and was granted unemployment benefits. Shortly after her unemployment application was granted, Renay sent Ms. Walsh an email that said, “I am notifying the VA that your marriage to Paul Walsh was not legal…therefore, your health benefits will stop and you will not be getting the big bonus you think you’ll be getting,”

Renay then filed a belated appeal with the Unemployment Board seeking to have Ms. Walsh’s benefits stopped. As part of the appeal, Renay had her so-called lackey husband sign an affidavit that stated in part: “I understand that Ms. Walsh is being treated at the VA by perpetrating a fraudulent claim that she was legally married when she was not.”

The Virginia Bar found Renay to be guilty of (a) breaching confidential matters, and (b) of threatening criminal action against Ms. Walsh in order to get even with her.

As a consequence of her egregious misconduct, the apologists sitting on the Virginia Supreme Court punished Renay by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand.

Because Attorney Misfits in Virginia are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Renay was never criminally charged with extortion.

As we speak (ca. April 2012) Renay practices her brand of law at 10107 Krause Road in Chesterfield, Virginia which is about 17 miles south of Richmond.
