Former Judge John G. Ritchie of Seattle; serial thief, liar  
While sitting on the King County District Court, the Judicial Commission filed misconduct charges against John. John was charged with filing false travel vouchers for reimbursement from the state. Johnny was also charged with improperly used county phones for personal long distance calls. A
The sham travel expenses included five trips, four to Florida and one to Arizona, all of which Johnny falsely claimed related to official court business. The state reimbursed Johnny $2,750 for the five trips; however, the Commission ruled that the Johnny’s travel vouchers contained false and misleading statements about the nature, purpose, duration, and benefit to the taxpayers of said trips.
The Commission went on to rule that Johnny merely used state funds to pay for vacations for him and his wife.
Subsequently the Commission recommended to the Supreme Court that Johnny be removed from the bench, a recommendation that the Court agreed with. Because Judicial Misfits in Washington are held to a lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Johnny was never criminally charged for stealing from the taxpayers.
Had Johnny been a sitting judge in Ohio and engaged in the same conduct by submitting sham travel expense claims for mileage, meals and/or lodging, he would never have been punished by the Disciplinary Commission.
In fact, from at least 1987 to 2010 during the reign of the late Chief Justice Thomas Moyer, no judge was ever punished for submitting false travel expense claims despite the fact he and the Court were provided with documentary evidence proving said thefts. The same is true for judges who submitted false claims for per diem wages as retired visiting judges.
Hopefully the next Washington State Judge that decides to defraud the taxpayers resigns his judgeship in King County (Seattle) and moves to Lucas County (Toledo), Ohio.
