Attorney Paul Matt of Billings, MT; ethical troll

The state of Montana presented Paul G. Matt with a law license in 1996 after he graduated from the University of Montana School of Law.

The Office of Disciplinary Counsel of Montana (ODC) found Paulie guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Failed to provide client with legally sufficient written communication setting forth the scope of the representation and the basis or rate of the fee and expenses to be charged
  • Failed to deposit client’s $2,500 retainer fee into an IOLTA (Interest on Lawyer Trust Accounts program) or other client trust account
  • Failed to file annual certificate of compliance with, or exemption from, IOLTA requirements
  • Improperly deposited client fees of $7,500 into his personal bank account
  • Commingled client funds with personal funds

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Montana Supreme Court punished Paulie by gifting him with a complimentary admonition.

As we speak (ca. January 2021), Paulie practices in Billings, Montana.
