Attorney Patricia Rios of Indianpolis; rubber check aficionado

The state of Indiana presented Patricia L. Rios with a law license in 2003 after she graduated from Indiana University School of Law.

The Indiana Disciplinary Commission found Patty guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Wrote a refund check representing unearned fees for $920.00 to a dissatisfied client that was returned for nonsufficient funds (rubber)
  • After Patty refused to issue a new check to the client, the client sued her in small claims claimd and obtained a judgment for $920 plus $101 in court costs and post-judgment interest at 8% per annum

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Indiana Supreme Court punished Patty by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand.

Because Attorney Misfits in Indiana are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Patty was never criminally charged and/or prosecuted for writing bad checks.

As we speak (ca. August 2020), Patty practices with the Rios Law Office PC at 429 East Vermont Street in Indianapolis, Indiana.
