Former Hong Kong Prosecutor Vivien Chan; ethical goblin

The Hong Kong Law Society provided Vivien Chan with a law license in 1981 after she graduated from King’s College, University of London School of Law. She also received a law license from the United Kingdom in 1981, Australia in 1982 and Singapore in 1990.

The Hong Kong Bar Association is investigating Vivien for allegedly engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Used her Facebook account to attack local judges and opposition lawmakers
  • Strongly criticized the judiciary on her personal Facebook account and condemned the vocal Bar Association and pan-democratic lawmakers since social unrest gripped Hong Kong beginning in 2019
  • Expressed support for police and called protesters “cockroaches”

Made the following statements on her Facebook account.

  • “The bias and unfairness of numerous judges have already severely damaged Hong Kong’s rule of law, safety and freedom.”
  • “Talking about tolerating violence, Hong Kong judges are second to none.”
  • “Thank you judges for granting the chaos in Hong Kong today.”.
  • “Rioters! Bar Association and judges who supported them are all scumbags!”

All that is left now is to see what if any punishment is meted out to Vivien for the misconduct set forth above.

As we speak (ca. April 2020), Vivien practices with Vivien Chan & Company in Hong Kong.
