Attorney Carol Ann Bustin of Hattiesburg, MS; repeat offender, Dufus

The state of Mississippi presented Carol Ann Bustin with a law license in 1991.

During her tenure on the bench with the Lamar County Justice Court, the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performed filed misconduct charges against Judge Bustin.

The Commission subsequently found Bustin guilty of the following:
  • While serving as attorney for David Lema’s ex-wife, she executed a felony arrest for Lema based upon an affidavit submitted by the ex-wife
The Supreme Court subsequently found Judge Bustin guilty of engaging in an egregious conflict of interest in executing an arrest warrant on behalf of her client and against the client’s ex-husband.

The Court noted that Judge Lema had been previously sanctioned for engaging in the same type of misconduct. The Court then punished Bustin by suspending her from office without pay for thirty-days. In addition, the Court issued Bustin a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. April 2012) Carol practices law at 104 South 37th Avenue in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
