Solicitor Wong Che Ming of Hong Kong; ethical goblin

The Law Society of Hong Kong presented Wong Che Ming with a law license in 1977 after he graduated from the University of Hong Kong School of Law.

The Law Society Disciplinary Counsel found Wong Che Ming guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Failed to advise client of possible conflict of interest between said client and a co-defendant in a High Court case in which he acted for both defendants
  • Compromised himself by continuing to act for two clients whereby he could not act properly by advising one of the clients to seek indemnity from a co-defendant who was his other client in a personal injuries action
  • Failed to disclose to client the advice of a counsel concerning the client’s case
  • Made offer to settle client’s claim with the insurer without having first obtained the authority from the client
  • Made misrepresentation [lied] to client that an offer of HK$160,000 was made by the insurer to settle a 3rd party claim
  • Failed to keep client informed of status of case

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Disciplinary Board punished Wong Che Ming by gifting him with a complimentary censure, fined HK$240,000 ($30,660.00 US) and assessed costs of HK$797,500.00 ($101,880.00).

As we speak (ca. November 2019), Wong Che Ming practices with Wong Poon Chan Law & Co. at 64 Connaught Road Central in Hong Kong.
