Attorney Carl J. Brizzi of Indianapolis; ethical leper-con

From 2002 through 2011, Carl was the elected prosecuting attorney for Marion County, Indiana, which includes Indianapolis.

In 2011, the Disciplinary Commission of the Indiana Supreme Court filed misconduct charges against Carl. Subsequently, the Commission found Carl guilty of misconduct for making public statements as a prosecutor that had a substantial likelihood of materially prejudicing court proceedings and a substantial likelihood of heightening public condemnation of criminal defendants.

Comments made by Carl re: murder charges filed against Bruce Mendenhall at a press conference in 2008 such as:
  1. DNA esting from the victim’s parents matches blood inside the cab of Mendenhall’s truck
  2. When the officer opened up the cab of the truck, Mendenhall’s seats were “soaked” with the blood of the victims
  3. “DNA analysis of the blood shows it’s not just the blood of one victim, but the blood of several victims”
  4. The victims were shot after their heads were wrapped in plastic wrap and duct tape
  5. A /22 caliber handgun used by Mendenhall in the killings was found in his truck
  6. I’m “working with other jurisdictions to see the quickest way and best way to punish him with the ultimate punishment – a capital sentence”
Comments made in a press release by Carl when seven family members, including three children were discovered murdered in their Indianapolis home in 2006.
  1. According to probable cause affidavit, Desmond Turner and James Stewart thought there was a large amount of money and drugs at 560 N. Hamilton Street.
  2. They weren’t going to let anyone or anything get in the way of what they belived to be an easy score. There was no money in that house. There were no drugs.
  3. Seven bodies were carried out, including those of three children. I would not trade all the money and drugs in the world for the life of one person, let along seven.
  4. Turner deserves the ultimate penalty for this crime.
The Commission found Carl guilty of violating the Code of Conduct in making statements he knew would likely prejudice a defendant’s right to a fair trial. Of course Carl’s sole intent was to further his claimed status as a “tough-on-crime” DA. Carl didn’t much give a damn if a defendant received a fair trial!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for sending murders packing for life or for the death penalty. However, I don’t support any DA that finds it acceptable to break the rules just so he/she can put another notch on their conviction belts.
The voters in the Indianapolis area apparently had their fill of Carl the Loser by voting him out of office in November 2011.

As we speak (ca. March 2012) Carl practices law with Carl Brizzi and Associates at 698 Pro-Med Lane in Carmel, Indiana.

On his self-serving website at www.carlbrizzi.com, Carl fails to alert prospective victims (he calls them clients) about being found guilty of misconduct by the Indiana Supreme Court. I guess it wouldn’t help Carl in trying to earn a dishonest living as an attorney if he did so, right?
