Judge Ed McKenna of Seattle; ethical gnome

The state of Washington provided Ed McKenna with a law license in 1976 after he graduated from Seattle University School of Law.

FYI: Eddie has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for the past thirty-one (31) years. Apparently, no self-respecting law firm in the greater Seattle area was about to offer Eddie a good paying job.

Seattle City Attorney Pete Holmes and Department of Public Defense Director Anita Khandelwal have alleged that Eddie engaged in the following misconduct.

  • Undermined public confidence in the court by violating judicial-conduct rules
  • Improperly pressed Mr. Holmes to recommend more jail time for defendants
  • Spoke inappropriately in public about his decision-making on sentences for defendants
  • Played politics with a specific case involving a repeat offender
  • Suggested he felt bound to follow prosecutor’s recommendations 99% of the time, which suggest the very opposite of impartiality
  • Disregards the advocacy of defense counsel

All that remains now is to see what if any action is taken by the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Judicial Commission.

And lastly, in a not so veiled threat of retaliation, Eddie warned Ms. Khandelwal and Mr. Holmes by citing a rule prohibiting statements by a lawyer known to be false concerning the qualifications, integrity or record of a judge. He went on to say:

  • “I intend no actions and I’m not asking you for an apology.”
  • “I simply ask that each of you initiate an effort to publicly correct your errors.”

Ms. Khandelwal and Mr. Holmes weren’t impressed with Eddie’s toothless threat. In a joint response, they said their concerns have not been assuaged (alleviated).

As we speak (ca. October 2019), Eddie continues to sit as a Seattle Municipal Court judge in Seattle, Washington.
