Attorney Penniann Schumann of Salt Lake City; greedy loser

The State of Utah presented Penniann Schumann with a law license in 2007 after she graduated from St. Louis University School of Law.

The Ethics and Discipline Committee of the Utah Supreme Court found Penny guilty of the following misconduct.

• Penny failed to disclose her pecuniary interest in an LLC and potential conflict of interest its appointment as co-trustee created
• Conduct eroded the trust and confidence the public wishes to place in lawyers and judicial system
• Failed to obtain a written waiver with informed consent signed by the client for the transaction whereby the LLC would become co-trustee of the client’s Family Trust
• Failed to advise the client in writing that she should seek the advice of independent legal counsel

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Utah Supreme Court punished Penny by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand.
