Attorney Douglas Shumway of Salt Lake City; ethical gnome

The State of Utah presented Douglas J. Shumway with a law license in 2008 after he graduated from the University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Law.

The Ethics and Discipline Committee of the Utah Supreme Court found Doug guilty of the following misconduct.

• Failed to act with candor when dealing trial court
• Failed to respect the rights of third persons
• Filed pleadings with the Court indicating his clients were titled owners of property based on a warranty deed recorded by the Recorder’s Office although the property was never recorded in his clients’ names
• Delayed filing a Notice of Release of Interest in the property for nearly a month after the clients were evicted forcing the developer to file a wrongful lien injunction

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Utah Supreme Court punished Doug by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.
