Sen. John Thune (R-SD): Today’s “IHOP-Flip-Flop” Award Winner

During a recent (ca. May 2019) rant, Johnny decided to prove that he’s one of America’s Premier Flip-Floppers when it comes to adding billions to the national debt. Johnny was giddy when he and his fellow Republican spendthrifts passed a $1.5 trillion tax cut aimed at corporations and billionaires/millionaires that will add trillions more to the national debt over the next ten years.

Now, let’s fast forward to May 2020 and see how Johnny feels about adding to the national debt. In this instance, Donald “Trumporleone” Trump made a proposal for a $2 trillion-dollar infrastructure bill. When Johnny the sham deficit hawk heard about it, he responded as follows to The Hill reporter Alexander Bolton.

  • “If we’re going to do infrastructure, I think we ought to pay for it.”
  • “I don’t think we ought to put it on the debt.”

It is painfully clear that Johnny the Flip-Flopper is content to blow up the deficit if it rewards his campaign contributors such as large corporations, billionaires and millionaires. However, when it comes to infrastructure and creation of blue-collar jobs, Johnny becomes a deficit hawk.

And lastly, Johnny gives hypocrisy a bad name!
