Former Judge Lonnie Carraway of Snow Hill, NC; convicted drunk

The state of North Carolina presented Lonnie W. Carraway with a law license in 1963 after he graduated from the North Carolina Central University School of Law.

It should be noted that former Gov. Jim Hunt was duped into appointing Lonnie as a District Court judge in 2000. Lonnie didn’t get the appointment because he was the most qualified attorney in the greater Lenoir County area. He received it because he had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

The North Carolina Judicial Standards Commission on Judicial Performance found Lonnie guilty of the following misconduct, all of which took place while he was employed as Judicial District 8 Judge in Kingston, North Carolina.

  • Convicted of driving under the influence of Amitriptyline and Zolpidem
  • Displayed serious disregard for the principles of personal conduct
  • Failed to respect and comply with the law
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the North Carolina Supreme Court punished Lonnie by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. March 2019), Lonnie practices his brand of law at 109 SE Second Street in Snow Hill, North Carolina.
