Attorney Gary Bertoni of Portland, OR; tax cheat, serial offender, thief

The state of Oregon provided Gary B. Bertoni with a law license in 1978 after he graduated from Northwestern University Law School.

The Oregon State Bar found Gary guilty of the following misconduct.

In addition, to the two instances of misconduct set forth below, Gary previously received a complimentary 150-day suspension of his law license for engaging in a variety of misconduct. Facts relating to said suspension can be found by visiting the URL at the end of this article.

• Failed to preserve client funds
• Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
• Failed to keep clients informed of status legal matters
• Engaged in extraordinary repetition of negligence
• Failed to refund unearned fees (thief)

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Oregon Supreme Court punished Gary by gifting him with a complimentary 1-year suspension of his law license.

Gary’s 3^rd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

In one matter, Gary was sentenced to five years of probation, three months of home detention on weekends and 500 hours of community service for failing to pay employment taxes. In addition, Gary is required to pay $181,898.21 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Gary pled guilty to 10 counts of willful failure to pay taxes, each count a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in prison and a $25,000 fine. As part of the plea deal, the government agreed to dismiss a felony indictment filed against Bertoni and not file additional charges. (Maxine Bernstein, The Oregonian)

All that remains now is to see what if any punishment is meted out to Gary by the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Oregon Supreme Court.
