2011 “IHOP – Flip-Flop Award Winner is Mitt Romney
Congratulations to….
Mitt Romney
2011 “IHOP – Flip-Flop” Award Winner
Obviously, there were many, many deserving candidates who worked diligently to receive this prestigious award.
In truth, Flipping Mitt made his most ardent competitors look like a bunch of amateurs and losers. Below are so me of Mitt’s finest Flip-Flops with his claim that he supports something listed first (blue font) and his flip-flop second (green font. To be fair to Mitt and to save time, I’ve decided not to list all of his flip-flops.
TARP
- “The right thing for the country as we were on the precipice and it was a scary time for a lot of people” – (ca. 01/28/10)
- Said he’d “shut down TARP, which bailed out the banking and financial industries” – (ca. 02/19/10)
Same sex civil unions
- Refused to sign a bill outlawing civil unions as Governor – (ca. 2001)
- “From day one, I have opposed the move to same-sex marriage, and its equivalent, civil unions” – (ca. 2011 South Carolina speech)
Campaign spending limits
- Advocated spending limits and an end to Political Action Committees (PACs) – (ca. 1992 and 1994)
- The American people deserve to be able to give to politicians without burdensome limits – (ca. 2007)
Catching Osama bin Laden
- “It’s not worth moving heaven and earth spending billions of dollars to try to catch one person” – (ca. 04/26/07)
- “Of course we get bin Laden track him everywhere he goes …We’ll move everything to get him” – (ca. 05/0307)
Health care reform
- Romney-care: “Will be a model for the nation” – (ca. 02/02/07
- Obama-care: “Health care reform should be left to the states” – (ca. 03/03/10
Mandates for Health Care
- “I like mandates. The mandates work” – (ca. 2007)
- Mandates are “unconstitutional on the 10th Amendment front” – (ca. 2011)
Serving in Vietnam
- “It was not my desire to go off and serve in Vietnam” – (ca. 1994)
- My biggest regret was not serving in the military. “I longed in many respect to actually be in Vietnam” – (ca. 2008)
Abortion
- “I will preserve and protect a woman’s right to choose. I respect and will fully protect a woman’s right to choose” – (ca. 2002)
- “I’ve always been personally opposed to abortion” – (ca. 2011)
Now folks, is Flipping Mitt the best at consistently reversing his position or what?
I suspect that if Mitt was invited to speak at the National Association of Wife Beaters Annual Conference in Vegas, he'd likely say he fully supports Domestic Violence.
Congrats Mitt; keep up the good work! We should let everyone know of your amazing record as America’s most accomplished Flip-Flopper for 2011; you are far too humble.
