Attorney Cheryl Coleman of Albany, NY; arrogant despot, Gadaffi Wannabee
Cheryl Coleman was presented with a law license by the New York Surpeme Court in 1986 after graduating from Albany Law School.
From 1986 through 2004, Cheryl dedicated her career to porking out at the public trough. From 1986 to 2000 she was an Assistant DA in Albany County. In 2001 she duped the voters into electing her as Albany City Court Judge.
Several years after becoming a judge, the Judicial Commission brought charges against Cheryl for her abusive conduct at a Bon Jovi concert.
During the concert, four ladies, all Bon Jovi fans, were apparently annoying Cheryl, which resulted in a shouting match. After some shouting and pushing between the four ladies and Cheryl, one of the ladies called security.
On at least two occasions, Cheryl pulled out her business card that said “Judge Cheryl Coleman” in order to “educate” the ladies (aka, intimidation).
When a security guard arrived, Cheryl persuaded him to deliver the four ladies to an Albany cop. On the mere protestations of Cheryl, the four ladies were arrested. Two of them were handcuffed to a bench to await arraignment with bail set at $1,000 for each of them.
The Judicial Commission found Cheryl guilty of being impatient, discourteous, acting undignified in dealing with attorneys and others in the court, and failing to follow the rules and law in contempt matters.
Rather than face possible removal from the bench by the Judicial Commission, Cheryl chickened out and resigned her judicial office. In do so she promised to never again seek a judicial office in New York.
As we speak (ca. Dec. 2011) Cheryl practices her brand of law at 100 State Street in Albany.
Unless you’re looking for a certified Bully to represent you legal interests, I’d suggest you avoid dealing with Cheryl Coleman.
