U.S. Judge Alfred Covello: Connecticut’s 2017 Double Dipping Porker of the Year Winner

The state of Connecticut provided Alfred V. Covello with a law license in 1960 after he graduated from the University of Connecticut Law School.

Former President George H.W. Bush was duped into nominating Al for a seat as a District Court judge for the District of Connecticut in April 1992. Al wasn’t nominated because he was the most qualified attorney in Connecticut. He got it because he had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local and state political hacks.

It should be noted that in February 2003 Al opted to assume the position of senior status judge. This meant that he was only required to work 10 hours a week while collecting 100% of a full-time judge’s annual salary, which as of 2018 would be $205,100.

In addition to his annual $205,100 salary, Al also collects an annual judicial pension from Connecticut of approximately $124,000 for a total of $329,100.

And lastly, if you’re a federal or even a local government employee, wouldn’t you love it if you could take on senior status in your job after 10 years and continue to collect 100% of your pay? Sorry boys and girls!

Even though you’ll never be able to collect this unconscionable financial benefit, you can take solace in the fact that you will be required to continue to pay taxes to support it.

As we speak (ca. March 20180, Al continues to sit as a District Court judge in Hartford, Connecticut.
