U.S. Judge George Smith: Ohio’s 2017 Double Billing Porker of the Year Winner

The state of Ohio provided George Curtis Smith with a law license in 1959 after he graduated from The Ohio State University Law School.

Former President Ronald Reagan was duped into nominating Georgie for a seat as a District Court judge for the Southern District of Ohio in July 1987. Georgie wasn’t nominated because he was the most qualified attorney in the greater Columbus area. He got it because he had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

For the past fifty-nine (59) years, Georgie has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough. Apparently, no self-respecting law firms in the greater Columbus area were about to offer Inge a good paying job.

It should be noted that in January 2002 Georgie opted to assume the position of senior status judge. This meant that she was only required to work 10 hours a week while collecting 100% of a full-time judge’s annual salary, which as of 2018 would be $205,100.

In addition to his annual $205,100 salary, Georgie also collects an annual judicial pension from the state of Ohio of approximately $93,000 for a total of $298,100.

And lastly, if you’re a federal or even a local government employee, wouldn’t you love it if you could take on senior status in your job after 10 years and continue to collect 100% of your pay? Sorry boys and girls!

Even though you’ll never be able to collect this unconscionable financial benefit, you can take solace in the fact that you will be required to continue to pay taxes to support it.
