Judge Lyman Holmes of Machias, ME; serial slacker, lifetime porker

The state of Maine presented Lyman L. Holmes with a law license in 1975 after he graduated from Vanderbilt University Law School.

It should be noted that Lyman has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for the past twenty-nine (29) years. Apparently, no self-respecting law firm in the greater Washington County area was about to offer Lyman a good paying job.

The Committee on Judicial Responsibility and Disability found Lyman guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to dispose of judicial matters promptly
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Engaged in an unacceptable pattern of delays in resolving numerous cases
  • Engaged in a pattern of misconduct
  • Delayed five years in resolving matter of family contact with a child
  • In several cases, parties waited over sixteen months for judicial decisions

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Maine Supreme Judicial Court punished Amy by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. April 2018) Lyman continues to sit as a Washington County Probate Judge in Machias, Maine.
