Judge Ron Mamiya of Seattle; Pervert
Unfortunately, Judge Ron Mamiya has been a judge in Seattle since 1981. In early 2009, the State Judicial Commission charged Judge Ron Mamiya with sexual harassment.
Beginning in Feb. 2008, a female court employee claimed that Judge Mamiya repeatedly came into her office or called into his chambers, where he kissed and fondled her with her permission. This perverted conduct continued until the woman resigned in Aug. 2008 and hired an attorney.
A settlement in the sexual harassment lawsuit was reached in Nov. 2008 for $135,000 with Mamiya and the city paying half. Of course Judge Ron Mamiya denied he did anything wrong. If you truly didn’t do anything wrong, would you voluntarily agree to personally pay almost $70,000 to the victim of your sexual harassment? I thought so!
The enablers/apologists on the Judicial Commission punished Judge Mamiya by gifting him with a “complimentary censure.”
In a lame attempt at levity, the Commission ordered Judge Mamiya to complete a course in judicial ethics. Why?
