Judge Gloria Dumas of Nashville; serial scofflaw, lazy

Unfortunately, Gloria Dumas (pronounced: dumb ass) succeeded in duping the voters in the Nashville area into electing her as a judge on the Davidson County General Sessions Court in 1998.

In early 2009, the Tennessee Court of the Judiciary filed a formal complaint against Gloria for engaging in the following misconduct.
  1. Being persistently late for court
  2. Consistently failed to attend to her docket
  3. Extensively used special judges to tend to her docket in a manner that violated Tennessee law
  4. In 2008 she made at least 33 illegal appointments of attorneys to take care of her docket
  5. In 2009 she made at least 12 more illegal appointments of attorneys to perform her work and this was after she was warned that her conduct violated Tennessee law
  6. Willfully failed to devote full time to t he duties of her office due to her frequent absences
  7. Engaged in a persistent pattern of intemperate, irresponsible and/or injudicious conduct
  8. Hired her daughter as a court officer even though she was unqualified and said conduct violated the rules/laws on nepotism
Local media in Nashville had reporters keep tabs on Gloria’s repeated failure to appear at Court on time. In fact, The Tennessean went to Gloria’s courtroom over a 13 days period of time. She convened court near the appointed time of 8:30 or 9:00 a.m. only 2 of the 13 days. Four of the 13 mornings, she was absent and replaced by another judge.

As could be expected, the enablers and apologists for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Tennessee Court of the Judiciary punished the Dishonorable Dumas by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand.

This non-existent punishment only further proves that Judges are held to a much lower standard of conduct than we are.

As we speak (ca. November 2011) Judge Dumas continues to sit as a Judge in Nashville.

Isn’t Tennessee a great country?
