Attorney Mary Clement of Portland, TN; Dumbo, slacker

The state of Tennessee unfortunately presented Mary Jeanette Clement with a law license in 2003 after she graduated from the University of Richmond Law School.

The Board of Professional Responsibility found Mary guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to provide competent representation (Dumbo)
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to fully cooperate with ethics investigators (Up yours, said Alisa!)
  • Failed to communicate with client
  • Engaged in the illegal practice of law
  • Failed to properly supervise office staff
  • Hired suspended attorney and assisted him in illegal practice of law
  • Failed to properly author plea agreement on client’s behalf
  • Failed to appear in court on behalf of client
  • Refused client’s repeated requests to correct erroneous plea agreement
  • Incompetence led to bench warrant being issued for her client
  • Billed client for fees in excess of flat fee contract (cheater)

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Tennessee Supreme Court punished Mary by gifting her with a complimentary 9-month suspension of her law license.

As we speak (ca. December 2017), Mary practices at 676 Northrup Road in Portland, Tennessee.
