U.S. Judge Charles Norgle Sr. of Chicago; pompous loser

The state of Illinois presented Charles Ronald Norgle Sr. with a law license in 1969 after he graduated from John Marshall School of Law.

Former President Ronald Reagan was duped into appointing Charlie to a seat as a U.S. District Court Judge for the Northern District of Illinois in 1984. Charlie didn’t get the appointment because he was the most qualified lawyer in the greater Chicago area. He got it because he had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

It should be noted that Charlie has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for the forty-eight years (1969-2017). Apparently, no self-respecting law firm in the Chicago area was about to offer Charlie a good paying job.

In one matter, defense lawyer Jennifer Bonjean told the 80-year-old codger that he was “advocating for the government” and “abdicating your job as a judge.” (Debra Cassens Weiss)

At the time, Ms. Bonjean was handling a jury trial involving mortgage fraud on behalf of her clients. After the jury rendered a verdict against her clients, she appealed the decision by alleging that Charlie had prejudiced the jury by showing contempt towards her during the trial.

The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Bonjean’s arguments that Charlie prejudice her case. The court laughingly said that some trial decisions by Charlie may have been “puzzling,” but didn’t justify Bonjean’s “frequent and serious” outburst.

Stating that some of this 80-year-old codgers ruling were “puzzling” doesn’t pass the involuntary laugh test. What do they expect from someone who is apparently attempting to set a “geezer” record in the 7th Circuit for longevity.

Some of the alleged inappropriate comments by Ms. Bonjean to Charlie are as follows:

“Would the court would like to take off its robe and come down here and do the government’s job for it?”

She also told jurors that Charlies was “doing re-cross for the government”, attempting to influence jurors, and violating her client’s Six Amendment rights.”

My experience with Arrogant Judges like Charlie leads me to believe that Ms. Bonjean’s comments were on point. Unforunately, seeking relief from another group of judges isn’t likely to be a recipe for success.

As we speak (ca. September 2017), Charlie continues to sit as a U.S. District Court Judge for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago.
