Attorney Stan Chesley of Cincinnati; greedy crook, ethical leper-con

The Ohio Supreme Court presented Stan Chesley with a law license in 1960 after his graduation from the University of Cincinnati. Stan is also licensed to steal, I’m sorry I mean to practice law in Kentucky.

Chesley is one of the greedy bastards (my apologies to greedy bastards) that conspired with several other crooked lawyers to defraud their clients in a $200 million settlement with American Home Products in litigation pending in Kentucky. The settlement involved problems with the drug Fen-Phen.

Stan’s crooked attorney partners, Shirley Cunningham Jr., William Gallion and Melbourne Mills, Jr., all of Kentucky have already been disbarred. The crooked judge who was part of this ongoing corruption, the Dishonorable Joseph Bamberger has yet to receive any punishment for his criminal conduct. Cunningham and Gallion were convicted of fraud and are serving long federal prison sentences.

The fee agreement involving these crooked attorneys called for them to receive about $60 million of the $200 million settlement; however, with the assistance of the Dishonorable Judge Bamberger, the crooks paid themselves almost $95 million and set aside another $20 million into a foundation to benefit all crooks.

On June 16, 2001, the Kentucky State Bar Association voted to disbar Stan the Crook. Linda Gosnell, the Bar Association’s chief counsel called Stanley’s disbarment “the final chapter of the unbridled greed” of the fen-phen case.

Retired Franklin Circuit Judge William Graham who presided over Chesley’s disciplinary hearing said he “callous subordination” of his client’s interests to his own greed was “shocking and reprehensible.” He also said Chesley lied to a judge, covered up his colleagues’ misdeeds and took $7.7 million in excessive fees. Judge Graham went to argue that Stan the Crook should be made to pay back the $7.6 million to the clients he so cheerfully screwed.

There's no evidence that Stan's subordinate attorney partners, all of whom shared in the $7.6 million he stole from his clients have voluntarily taken any steps to return these illgotten gains. Unless and until a Court enters an Order directing them to so act, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for these so-called attorney stalwarts to do the right thing.

Judge Graham then went on to state that Stan was “fully aware” that the major part of the $200 million settlement wasn’t given to clients, and Chesley should have known by “fifth-grade arithmetic” that he had been paid more than he was entitled to under his contract. (Associated Press)

Stan the Crook is considered one of the nation’s most prominent plaintiff’s attorneys. Of course this hyperbolic (BS) claim doesn’t mean he’s one of the nation’s most ethical attorneys. It really means he has cheerfully screwed more deep pocket defendants by putting forth specious claims supported by highly questionable evidence. In truth, Stan is a “prominent attorney thief,” nothing more, nothing less!

If the Kentucky Supreme Court votes to disbar Stan, the Ohio Supreme Court will follow suit. However, if Stan was only being investigated by Ohio’s so-called disciplinary agency, he’d likely be punished by being gifted with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. June 2011) Stan the Loser continues to practice law as President of Waite, Schneider, Bayless & Chesley One West 4th Street in Cincinnati.
