GOP Chairman Jeff Essmann of Montana: Today’s “Screwball” Award Winner

This isn’t the first Award presented to Ricky. In the past, he has been the recipient of seven (7) Awards in various categories and the subject of one (1) opinion piece. Those awards and opinion piece are listed at the end of this article and can be viewed by going to the listed categories.

In November 2010, Mark succeeded in duping the voters in the greater Ottumwa area into elected him as a member of the Iowa State Senate. Since his election, Mark has proven to be a Congenital Liar and Certified Buffoon and Lunatic and those are just a few of his good points.

Jeff Essmann is the chairman of the Montana GOP, Republican Party. After an expensive 2016 election caused by the death of a candidate was incurred by local elected boards, they asked the state legislature to pass legislation allowing for a special election to replace Rep. Ryan Zinke after his appointment to head the U.S. Interior Department.

In response, a state senator and representative, both Republicans introduced legislation that would have allowed Montanans to cast mail-in ballots for said special election.

In response to that legislation, Jeff took sent Republicans an “emergency report” via email, warning that making it easier to vote would benefit Democrats. In his laughable email, Jeff said:

  • “All mail ballots give the Democrats an inherent advantage in close elections due to their ability to organize large numbers of unpaid college students and members of public employee unions to gather ballots by going door to door.”
  • “Vote-by-mail is designed to increase participation rates of lower propensity voters.”
  • “Democrats in Montana perform better than Republican candidates among lower propensity voters and Republicans do better among higher propensity voters.”

Jeff completed his asinine rant by saying:

  • “I know that my position will not be popular with many fiscally conservative Republican County Commissioners or the sponsor of House Bill 305.”
  • “They may be well intended, but this bill could be death of our effort to make Montana a reliably Republican state.”
  • “It is my job to remind us all of the long term strategic advantage that passage of this bill would provide to our Democrat opponents for control of our legislature and our statewide elected positions.”

Finally, we have a Republican who openly admits that his party is primarily interested in retaining power and not in making sure that every eligible voter is given an opportunity to vote. In fact, Jeff was more than willing to stick the taxpayers with a bill of at least $500,000 to pay for in-person voting.

If Screwy Jeff really wants to keep Democrats from winning any future elections in Montana, he should propose legislation making it illegal for anyone to run for public if he/she is a declared Democrat.

Maybe Montanans should take up a collection and pay for a one-way ticket to send Jeff to a more democratic country where voting is held sacrosanct like Russia or North Korea.

Congrats Jeff; keep up the good work! We should let everyone know of your amazing record as one of America’s most disrespected “Screwballs”; you are far too humble
