Attorney David Bernfeld of New York City; convicted tax cheat

The state of New York presented David Boris Bernfeld with a law license in 1966 after he graduated from New York University (NYU) Law School.

The Departmental Disciplinary Committee found Dave guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, Dave was charged with two counts of repeated failure to file income tax returns, a class E felony, based on allegations that he failed to file returns and pay taxes on $1,047,518 in income earned between over a four-year period.

Subsequently, the charges were reduced for purposes of disposition and Dave pleaded guilty in Clarkstown Town Court, Rockland County, to one count of failing to file a New York State personal income tax return, a misdemeanor.

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Departmental Disciplinary Committee punished Dave by gifting him with a complimentary 3-month suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. February 2017), Dave practices with Bernfeld DeMattos & Bernfeld at 600 Third Avenue in New York, New York.
