Attorney Roy Thomas of Batesville, AR; slacker, serial offender

 

The state of Arkansas presented Roy Edward Thomas with a law license in 1973 after he graduated from the University of Arkansas Law School.

 

The Committee on Professional Conduct found Roy guilty of the following misconduct.

 

Roy’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • Failed to maintain an IOLTA attorney trust account
  • Commingled client funds with personal funds
  • Violated or attempted to violate the rules of professional conduct, knowingly assisted or induced another to do so, or did so through the acts of another
  • Failed to promptly respond to client information requests
  • Failed to refund unearned fees upon termination (thief)
  • Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Committee on Professional Conduct punished Roy by gifting him with a complimentary caution.

 

Roy’s 2nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to keep client informed of status of legal matter
  • Failed to promptly respond to client information requests
  • Failed to return client file upon termination
  • Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Committee on Professional Conduct punished Roy by gifting him with a complimentary caution.

 

Roy’s 3rd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • Failed to abide by client decisions re: representation
  • Failed to consult with client as to the means to achieve client objectives
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to promptly respond to client information requests
  • Failed to take necessary steps to protect client interests after termination
  • Knowingly disobeyed obligation owed under rules of a tribunal
  • Engaged in illegal practice of law in another jurisdiction

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Committee on Professional Conduct punished Roy by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.
