Judge Stephen Cox of Benton, LA; ethical leprechaun

The state of Louisiana presented Stephen Cox with a law license in 1980 after he graduated from Louisiana State University (LSU) Law School.

The Louisiana Judicial Campaign Oversight Committee found Stevie guilty of the following misconduct.

It should be noted that Stevie’s misconduct is related to his campaign to be elected as a Judge on the Louisiana 2nd Circuit Court of Appeal.

  • Knowingly made or caused to be made a false statement concerning the identity, qualifications, present position, or other fact concerning a candidate’s opponent
  • Improperly appears on ballot with other public office candidates
  • Sent out improper mailer stating: “Judge Cox has ruled on over 30,000 cases and 99 percent of those decisions stand.”
  • Falsely implied his 30,000 decisions were upheld by an appellate court
  • Misrepresented facts in mailer re: bail amount for aggravate rape defendant
  • Falsely identified rape defendant in a mailer as a “suspected murderer” that Judge Caraway “agreed to reverse district court bond decision, allowed defendant to go free”

As we speak (ca. November 2016), Stevie continues to sit as a 26th District Court judge in Benton, Lousiana.
