Barrister Donald Thomas of New Zealand; ethical gremlin

The Law Society of New Zealand presented Donald Bruce Thomas with a law license in 1970.

The found New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal found Donnie guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Improperly released money being held in a family trust during a separation negotiation without informing one of the trustees
  • Allowed trust funds to be used to purchase property per instructions of only one trustee
  • Engaged in reckless conduct
  • Aware high court orders required to release family trust funds
  • Conduct amounted to a serious failing

As a consequence of his misconduct, the patron saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the New Zealand Disciplinary Tribunal punished Donnie by gifting him with a complimentary censure and a $16,000 fine.

As we speak (ca. August 2016), Donnie practices with Thomas & Co. at 3 Totara Avenue in New Lynn, Auckland, New Zealand.
