Solicitor Stephen Roche of Australia; serial thief

The Law Society presented Stephen Francis Roche with a law license in 1987.

The Bar Association of Queensland found Stevie guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to discharge fiduciary duties to client
  • Engaged in unsatisfactory professional conduct
  • Engaged in gross overcharging of fees (thief)

Roche and his firm billed client $300 an hour for the following:

  • Work performed by secretaries
  • Attempting to make phone calls to client, which went unanswered
  • Trying to call persons who were unavailable to take the calls
  • Making a copy of an account received by firm
  • Preparing form asking account department to issue check
  • Searching for documents and files in the firm’s possession
  • Typing of formal letters by staff performing secretarial duties
  • Arranging accommodations for solicitors
  • Internal telephone calls and emails between office staff

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Queensland Bar punished Stevie by gifting him with a complimentary 12-month suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. June 2016), Stevie practices with Shine Roche McGowan at 126 Russell Street, in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia
