Ohio’s No. 1 Overall Grinch Award Winner: Ex. Auditor Betty Montgomery
Betty Dee Montgomery has spent the lion’s share of her adult life (DOB: 1948) with her snout firmly implanted in the public trough. Shortly after graduating from law school she worked as a prosecutor in Bowling Green and from 1989-1995 was a state Senator. From 1995-2003 she was Ohio Attorney General and Ohio’s Auditor from 2003 to 2007. After being defeated in her run for Ohio Governor she did what any lifetime poker does, she opened up a political consulting firm in Columbus.
In a concerted effort to cement her status as an infamous Grinch, Betty had the chutzpah to bill her campaign contributors for the following laughable (aka, anorexic) expenses.
$0.71 = average of expenditures above
1.9 miles = average trip
As evidenced above, Betty Dee is an embarrassment to all well-intentioned Grinch’s, penny-pinchers, skinflints, tightwads and/or assorted Scrooges running amuk in the public sector throughout the country. One can only imagine the costs associated with processing Betty Dee’s laughable claims for reimbursements. Of course while she was preparing these claims for reimbursement, she was on the public dole.
Assuming Betty Dee spent 2 minutes on each claim (24 total minutes) and since the state paid her $54 an hour, it likely cost Ohioans about $25 to process totaling $7.09. If you were a public official wouldn’t you feel a tad embarrassed to have these anemic reimbursements listed online for public consumption? I damn sure would!!!
Given Betty Dee’s claimed poverty status, she may well qualify for admittance to the Free and Reduced Price Meal program. Obviously, we (that'd be you overtaxed Ohioans) wouldn't want to be accused of "Leaving a Child Behind," right?
As of this writing (ca. Dec. 2010) it appears that Betty Dee is in the running to be named as a 1st Team All-American Grinch. To be fair to Betty, the competition is stiff. In fact, as of this writing one of her stiffest competitors for this prestigious award is none other than US Federal District Judge Michael Schneider of Texas.
