U.S. Judge Ralph Beistline of Fairbanks, AK; incompetent loser

The state of Alaska presented Ralph R. Beistline with a law license in 1974 after he graduated from the University Arkansas at Little Rock Law School.

Former President George W. Bush was duped into nominating Ralph to a seat on the U.S. District Court for Alaska in November 2001, which led to his ascending to the bench in March 2002. Ralph didn’t get the appointment because he was the most qualified lawyer in Alaska.  He got it because he had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

In one matter, Ralph was assigned to hear the case of Alaska Oil and Gas Association v. Jewel, which pitted the Oil industry against the Department of the Interior (DOI) regarding protecting the habitat of Polar Bears.

As expected, Ralph ruled in favor of the polluters and against protecting the Polar Bears and their dwindling habitat.

Shortly after Ralph’s ruling against the Polar Bears, the DOI filed an appeal with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Subsequently, the Court of Appeals reversed Ralph’s asinine ruling. In doing so, the Court restored the 187,000 square mile swath of land and sea that it ruled was “critical habitat” for the Polar Bears.

Unfortunately, the taxpayers are the ones that got burned by Ralph’s ruling wherein he favored the energy sector polluters that cheerfully supported his appointment to the bench.

And lastly, in addition to being an ignoramus, Ralph took on the status of a Senior Judge in December 2015. Statutorily this means he only has to work 10-hours-a-week to earn his $199,100 annual salary. This short work week equates to an hourly wage of $414.00, a rather princely sum for a part time job.

Given the fact that Ralph is 67-years old, it is likely that he’ll be working as a part time judge for an additional 20 years.
