Judge Joseph Portelli of Paterson, NJ; potty mouth loser

The State of New Jersey presented Joseph A. Portelli with a law license in 1991 after she graduated from Widener University Law School.

Former Gov. Jon Corzine was duped into appointing Joey as a Passaic County Superior Court judge in 2009. Joey didn’t receive the appointment because he was the most qualifed attorney in the greater Passaic area. He received it because he had proven to be a reliable lackey by the local political hacks.

The New Jersey Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct has charged Joey with engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Failed to observe high standards of conduct
  • Failed to act in manner promoting public confidence in impartiality of judiciary
  • Made inappropriate remarks to attorney in open court
  • Made offensive and sexually comment to attorney appearing before him and did so in the presence of others
  • Demonstrated lack of dignity and respect for his judicial office
  • Invited child to sit on his lap during court proceedings
  • Told female Deputy Attorney General “no you can’t come sit on my lap next” after inviting child to sit on his lap
  • Communicated with State’s witness while she testified before him, the content of which was about her physical appearance
  • Told Deputy Attorney General in open court that he “hated” trying guardianship cases because they were “so boring and long”
  • In chambers, put his arms around Deputy Attorney General and remarked she was doing a great job and he liked how she “shoves it up” or “rams it up” the Law Guardian’s “ass” and the Law Guardian “needs that” or “deserves that”
  • Made vulgar and insulting remarks to attorneys appearing before him

All that left’s now is to what if any punishment is meted out to Joey by the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the New Jersey Supreme Court.

As we speak (ca. February 2016), Joey continues to sit as a Passaic County Superior Court judge in the Family Division in Passaic, New Jersey.
