Attorney Caroline Smith of Chicago; ethical dwarf

The state of Illinois presented Caroline J. Smith with a law license in 1992 after she graduated from Georgetown University Law School.

The Illinois Registration and Disciplinary Commission found Caroline guilty of the following misconduct.

• Represented a client when the interests of that client are directly adverse to the interests of another client
• Represented multiple clients in a single matter when such representation may be materially limited by the lawyer's responsibilities to another client or third person
• Failed to promptly pay or deliver to her client or third person funds which his client or third person was entitled to receive and, upon request by the client or third person
• Failed to promptly render a full accounting regarding client funds

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Illinois Supreme Court punished Caroline by gifting her with a complimentary stayed 2-month suspension of her law license.

In truth, the comedians sitting on the Illinois Supreme Court didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Caroline.
