Attorney Randy Laedeke of Billings, MT; thieving loser

The state of California presented Randy Laedeke with a law license in 1972.

The Office of Disciplinary Counsel of Montana found Randy guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, Randy represented the widow in the death of William Newberg who died from injuries he suffered in an automobile accident.

Eventually Randy settled the case for $300,000 and according to the contingent fee agreement he was entitled to receive 40% or $120,000 in attorney fees.

Randy paid himself over $183,000 in fees and another $32,000 in expenses, which amount to over 70% of the $300,000 settlement.

The commission ruled that Randy had misappropriated over $80,000 of the $300,000 settlement and that seven years after the settlement was reached, he still hadn’t properly distributed or accounted for the $300,000.

When the commission instituted its investigation of Randy, none of the $300,000 remained in the client trust account.

In a lame attempt at levity, Randy offered the excuse that he as only borrowing the Newburg funds and intended to return them once his next big settlement came about. He then blamed the defense bar by whining that defense attorneys who drag out cases for years made it difficult for him to repay the trust fund. (The Billings Gazette)

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Montana Supreme Court ordered that Randy be disbarred.

Because Attorney Misfits in Montana are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Randy was never criminally charged for grand theft.

Unfortunately for the citizens living in the Billings area, Montana law allows a disbarred attorney to seek reinstatement five years after disbarment. In other words, Randy the Thief may well likely have his law license reinstated in 2020.
