Attorney Bethany Moore of Pittsburg, TN: ethical gremlin

The state of Alabama presented Cynthia Hooks Umstead with a law license in 2008 after she graduated from Samford University Law School.

The Alabama State Bar Association found Bethany guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to take reasonable steps to protect client interests after being terminated
  • Made false statement of material fact to a tribunal
  • Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on fitness to practice law – 8.4g
  • Violated or attempted to violate rules of conduct, knowingly assisted or induced another to do so, or did so through the acts of another
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Failed to communicate with client
  • Failed to appear at hearings on client’s behalf on multiple occasions

As a consequence of her misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Alabama Supreme Court punished Bethany by gifting her with a complimentary 45-day suspension of her law license.

As we speak (ca. July 2015), Bethany practices at 301 Pine Street in Pittsburg, Tennessee.
