Judge Albert Smith III of Tunica, MS; lifetime porker, ethical elf

The state of Mississippi presented Albert B. Smith III with a law  license in 1984 after he graduated from the Mississippi School College of Law.

Former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove was duped into appointing Albert as a Circuit Court judge in 2000. Albert didn’t receive the appointment because he was the most qualified attorney in the greater Cleveland, Mississippi area. He received it because he had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

For the past twenty-eight years (ca. 1987 to 2015), Albert has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough. Apparently, no self-respecting law firm was about to offer him a good paying job.

The Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance found Albert guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in immoral conduct (moral turpitude)
  • Engaged in willful misconduct in office
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Misconduct brought judicial office into disrepute
  • Illegally jailed defendants by violating their due process rights
  • Serious abuse of contempt power

As a consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Mississippi Supreme Court punished Albert by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. April 2015), Albert continues to sit as a Tunica County Circuit Court judge in Tunica, Mississippi.
