Judge J. Robin Free of Port Allen, LA; repeat offender

When judge Free was required to recuse (withdraw) himself from a case, he chose to knowingly thumb his nose at the Code of Judicial Conduct.

In a 2010 case, Free found it acceptable to take a free trip from a lawyer whose client had just won a $1.2 million suit in Free’s court. In addition, the same lawyer tried two other cases in Free’s so-called courtroom.

As one would suspect, this wasn’t Free’s First bite at the Judicial Misfit Apple Tree. He was previously disciplined for engaging in a variety of misconduct.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Louisiana Supreme Court punished Free by gifting him with a complimentary 30-day suspension from the bench.

As we speak (ca. April 2015), Free continues to sit as a 18thJudicial District Court judge in Port Allen, Louisiana.
