US Judge Stephen Wilson of Pasadena, CA; incompetent loser

The state of California presented Stephen Victor with a law license in 1973 after he graduated from George Washington University Law School.

Former President Reagan was duped into appointing Wilson as a District Court Judge in 1985 even though he wasn’t the most qualified attorney in the Los Angeles area. Wilson received his appointment because he had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

In one matter, Judge Wilson was assigned to hear a case of Doe I v. Nestle, USA while it was defending again claims it had engaged in slave labor practices on plantations it owned in the Ivory Coast.

Nestle sued by Malian children who were forced to labor on plantations that produced cocoa that was later purchased by Nestle. The lawsuit claimed that Nestle was aware of the conditions on the plantations but nevertheless bought the cocoa. The Malian children argued that Nestle was liable for violations of international law under the Alien Tort Statute, specifically for aiding and abetting forced labor and child labor violations in purchasing the cocoa.

Wilsondismissed the case by ruling that corporations cannot be liable for violations of international law and finding that Plaintiffs had failed to plausibly plead that Nestle knew or should have known that the wrongful acts were being committed.

In reversing Wilson’s ignorant rulings, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals stated:

  • Wilson erred in requiring plaintiff’s to allege specific intent to in order to satisfy the applicable purpose of mens rea (knowledge of wrongdoing)

The court then sent the case back to Wilson, meaning that the taxpayers have again been hosed by the incompetent conduct of a judge that cannot properly interpret and/or apply the law that he took an oath to uphold.

As we speak (cs. April 2015), Wilson continues to sit as a US District Court Judge in Pasadena, California.
